Pio Pico District Award Dinner, March 2, 2024

The Pio Pico District Award Dinner will be on March 2, 2024 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 11345 Miller Rd, Whittier, CA 90604. Registration is now online, click the link below.

Join us for a delightful Family Style Lasagna Dinner featuring both Meat and Veggie Lasagna, accompanied by an Antipasto Appetizer, crisp Salad, delectable Garlic Bread, and a tempting array of Desserts. Quench your thirst with refreshing Iced Tea and Coffee. Your presence will make this evening of culinary delights even more special.

Our District provides a values-based Scouting program for young people in Greater LA Scouting and is focused on building character and citizenship development in our youth. Our District strives to deliver a quality program for youth, with trained adult leadership, supported by an incredibly professional staff.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) at Firestone March 16 & 17, 2024

Registration is now open for the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) training at Firestone Scout Reservation on March 16 & 17, 2024. See the registration link below.

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. This weekend course is an overnighter and is one of the required courses for direct contact leaders in Scouts BSA troops.

Pio Pico Pushcart Derby (postponed to April 27th, 2024)

Get ready Pio Pico for the annual Pushcart Derby!

Saturday, February 17 April 27th, 2024.
Racing is from 8:30-1 PM.

No set time on tracks. Teams will get in line to race. The awards will be given out at 2 PM. We ask that all units help clean up the tracks during the hour break before awards.

Cost: $15.00 per racer

Divisions: Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo/AOL, Scout Troops, Crew/Adults

Units will need to have 2 adult volunteers to work the track as stopwatch timers. (Shifts are 1 hour)

Pio Pico “Scouts of the Roundtable” Spring Camporee

To participate in the upcoming Camporee like the knights of old, we kindly request that you register as a Scout Unit rather than individual registrations. This will help us streamline the process and ensure a seamless experience for everyone. Upon successfully registering your unit, a comprehensive email containing essential information for the Camporee will be sent your way.

We’d like to emphasize that there won’t be any day-use option available for this event. Hence, we kindly ask you to include all attendees, including Scouts and accompanying leaders, within your unit’s registration. Let’s embark on this thrilling adventure through time together and make lasting memories at this Medieval Themed Camporee!

Pio Pico District Roundtable January 17, 2024 (NEW LOCATIONS in 2024)

Pio Pico District Roundtable Meetings are coming to your city in 2024! Don’t miss out on NEW training topics and locations.

Bring your unit leaders and parents to learn what our district is all about.

We will be rotating where we host our Pio Pico District Roundtable between these three cities throughout the year: Downey, Cerritos, and Whittier. The dates for which each location will host Roundtable is in the attached calendar.

Our January Roundtable will be this upcoming Wednesday, January 17, 2023 at 7pm and it will be held in Downey, CA at Apollo Park. The address is 12544 Rives Ave, Downey, CA 90242. The meeting will be held in an activity room next to the gymnasium (see picture below with red arrow pointing to the entrance).

To reach the building from the parking lot: Walk to the south end of the parking lot along Rives Ave, turn left, and then enter through the double doors at the right side of the building (red arrow below). Alternate entrance if that is unavailable would be through the gymnasium main entrance (yellow arrow) and then enter into the room on the right.

This will be an in person only meeting, no Zoom. We look forward to you coming and connecting with other Scouters in our district!

As shown in the attached calendar February Roundtable will be in Cerritos (location instructions to be sent in an upcoming email) and our March Roundtable will be in Whittier. We will then keep rotating amongst these locations throughout the year (skipping the month we are dark in July). We look forward to you supporting the scouting communities in each of these areas by attending each of these Roundtables.

Also attached is our 2024 Roundtable topics and breakouts plan. The topics are subject to change and when they do we will notify you via email, newsletter, and website.

Merit Badge Day Moved to January 20, 2024

Updated flyer for the January 20, 2024 event is added below! The event will be held in either rain or shine.

For the upcoming Merit Badge Day on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Palm Park, 5703 Palm Ave, Whittier, CA 90601, we have now released the merit badges offered and the session schedule.

Scouts should email the counselor to reserve their seat in a merit badge class (be sure to cc your Scout Leader and Parent on all emails, per 2-deep Youth Protection guidelines). Parents, please don’t email the counselor yourself to reserve a seat, your scout should be responsible for reserving their own seat (with the proper cc’s as mentioned above).

Cost: $15.00, Includes lunch
